Overtime pay
Under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act, covered non-exempt employees must get overtime of at least one and one-half times their regular rate for hours worked over 40 in a workweek. The FLSA does not require extra pay for weekends or holidays unless those hours are overtime. Some states have additional overtime rules.
Does being salaried mean no overtime?
No. Being paid a salary alone does not make someone exempt. Exemptions depend on the job duties and pay tests in the regulations.
Can hours be averaged over two weeks?
Under the FLSA, no. Each workweek stands alone.
Does my state have daily overtime?
Some states do. The Department of Labor's state minimum wage table also shows state premium pay rules.
