Workplace safety
Federal law gives workers the right to a workplace free of known serious hazards, to safety training in a language they understand, to required safety equipment, and to report concerns without being punished. Some states run their own OSHA-approved programs.
How do I report a hazard?
You can file a confidential complaint with OSHA online, by phone, by mail or in person. If possible, tell your employer first.
Can I refuse unsafe work?
In limited situations involving a risk of death or serious harm. OSHA explains the conditions on its worker rights page.
What if I was punished for reporting?
You can file a whistleblower complaint with OSHA. For many safety-related complaints, that is within 30 days of the retaliation; other laws have different deadlines.
